Laundry Soap

Cheap! Cheap! Cheap laundry soap.

Ingredients

1 bar Fels-Naptha, shredded

1 1/2 cup Washing Soda

1 1/2 cup Borax

Boil 1 gallon of water and add the Fels-Naptha, stir until melted. Add washing soda and Borax, stir until dissolved. Add 2 more gallons of water, stir.

I pour it into a 5 gallon bucket from the hardware store. I have a friend who pours into 3 old rinsed out milk jugs. Use 1/4 (to 1/2) cup for each load of laundry.

This gels up fairly solid for me. When I put it in the wash I "squish" is through my hands to break it up. My friend shakes the jugs well. Jury is out on finding an easier way to make more liquid and less gel.

I buy several Fels-Naptha with 1 box each of the other 2. For me this is worth the little work and funky gel.

It is this last project that took me to an old project. I was looking through old photo albums (promised I would not get caught up, but did on this one) and found a scrapbook from my senior year in high school. In it was the 10 page report my dad (and mom) gave to the head principal (there were 4 vice-principals) for the roughly 2,000 students. It was a defining moment in my life. I would have taken a very different path, probably gone on to school right out of high school if my "mentor" had not...scr*w*d me over. She did not teach for the entire last semester after my parents documented many of the events that occurred.
I was President of the "Home Economic Related Occupations" club, HERO for short. Our teacher/advisor did not do what I and my parents thought she should have, teach. That was a long time ago and my heart still pounded and a tear still came out. If only, if only? Well my current occupation is Home Economics and I'm the successful co-president now.

Mother's Day Food

Wow! Delicious!

Breakfast in bed was sauteed garlic, spinach, tomato, cheese whoops omelet (scrambled) along side 2 strawberry flowers. Delicious!

I had a picture for dinner but can't find the cord to upload. Wow! Lemon cake, tater tots, grilled butter asparagus, and the big deal...drum roll...ribs in Momma Sophie BBQ sauce from Johnny Boys in LaPlata, Maryland!! Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful!!

Thank you Jamie, Hubby and my parents (for the sauce). Yum.

Customer Service

At the age of 16 I got a job at a McDonald's just opening up. It became the premier of McDonald's. A few years later in another state I was working at a McDonald's when I learned of my original store reputation for greatness. We had great customer service. It's all been down hill since.
This past week I experienced some rare good customer service. I was buying a sewing/quilting machine, I had my name for a used Juki 98 and they sold it to someone else. I was upset. He gave me a brand new machine for the same price as the used and even through in for free an attachment I wanted. When I picked up the machine they forgot to give me the owner's/operator manual. When I went back to pick it up they gave me a free tote bag. I've driven to the store 5 times and talked with them on the phone 4 times. They did right by me in the end.
I won't go into the details of this next one. I was charged double what I expected in ordering something. When I called to set it straight I was polite and professional but the owner of the business was having a difficult time doing the same with me so he stopped and put his wife, the other owner, on the phone. She handled me very well. I was at fault in not clearly communicating what I wanted. Shame on me. The owner is willing to refund me a little of the money, they were at some fault too.
I am still working on a dispute between insurance and a doctor. So far everyone is polite.
Customer Service isn't what it used to be but sometime I find pockets of good ones. I am always surprised & happy when I am greeted by a genuinely happy person at some fast food place like McDonald's.

Quilted Milestones

If you heard of a company named "Quilted Milestones" what kind of business would you think it is? Quilting is easy, what does the Milestones say?

I have wanted to start my own business for several years. My mom successfully did and I think I can too. I just have to find my niche at what I'm "good enough" at and willing to improve. I hope to be up and running by October.
