"What's your name?"
"Sheryl"
The person almost always writes it with the most common way of spelling it, (which is wrong by the way) with a "C". Even people who have known me for along time spell it wrong. That's ok, I'm not offended. Unless we are related. I think relatives should have names, spelling and birthdates memorized. But, I'm not very good with the years… or with nieces and nephews… or with in-laws…or spelling.
I have learned to love the letter "S". I think it looks very feminine.
All of my siblings have first names that have to have the spelling clarified. Before I married and changed my last name...Whew! Claspell! It is pronounced like "class" "spell", sorta. I pronounce it "class" "bowl". I like having a last name now that is spelled correctly. I do miss the looks when saying “Claspell”. Don’t ask where the name comes from, we don’t know. We use to joke it means, “can’t spell”.
I have learned to cut to the chase and just say;
"Sheryl with an ‘S’. Last Name one ‘N’.”
This is who I am.
