A week or so ago I was at the dollar store and saw a kitchen timer. It has a magnet on the back and a clip. I bought it because Alton Brown has one. It is blue and I clip it to my clothes and go do other things.
I thought it might come in handy on laundry day. My gas dryer will buzz nearly an hour after the clothes are actually dry and I don't always hear my oven timer.
OMG! I finished a couple of HOURS before I usually do. Maybe something else was going on, I don't know.
Today I am canning pears (for the first time as an adult) and I have the timer clipped to me to check the water. I am blogging while canning!
I just might have to go buy some more for when this one dies.

Killer Shoes

I wore my sexy shoes to "Phantom of the Opera" on Wednesday night for my hubbies birthday.
Walking back to the car a group of women came up from behind me and told me they loved my shoes. One told me they are "sassy".
Half way down another street another woman came up and said she like them too.
It is Friday and the balls of my feet are still swollen. Totally worth it (that time).

Nine Eleven
Just thinking about where I was. I was asleep when my hubby called up to say one of the twin towers was on fire. I turned on the news, not terribly interested, but watched so I could report back to hubby what he was missing. I watched a plane in the sky and listened to Matt Lauer exclaim, "Is that another plane?!" I watched the plane disappear and then the other tower caught fire. Latter the pentagon was hit. I decided to be glued to the TV and watch and at some point we decided our kids would not be going to school that day. I don't remember some details of that day but have some vivid images that have stayed with me.
I had agreed to baby sit for a friend before hand and when she dropped off her daughter, I was surprised that she was still going to the dentist. She had been going about her normal day and had not realized our world had changed. She later confided that it hit her pretty hard. She had had personal experience with her father's life being at risk while serving our country.
My daughter and I sat on my back porch a few days later and heard and saw an airplane. My heart raced and we were both scared. I listened for the crash. I didn't hear one. Again another airplane later, I listened for the crash. This went on for a few days. There are times even still today, I listen for the crash. I grew up near Air Forces Bases. I grew up listening to air craft. As a newly married couple we lived just off the Naval Station for test pilots.
"You hear that sound? That's the sound of Freedom" No longer sounds the same for me.
We were under attack. Here. This is my country. This is my home. This was something that only happened in other countries that we heard about in the news. How? WHY?
There is a song that I loved that now I can not here with out experiencing the same emotions that I felt that day,
"It's the End of the World..as we Know it."

PU yall UP
"Do the Puyallup" If you're local you know that means that fair. Yesterday was $1 a ride, so with the free tickets that the school kids get we went and had a great time. I didn't take them out of school this year, we went after they got home. One of the rides that we went on reminded me of the school carnival when I was a kid and my sister and I went on the "Monkey" ride. She was crying and pleading with the worker to let her off, as I was just laughing my head off. Well I was laughing my head off yesterday on the "Sky Diver" but...I am a little older and little heavier and it was not as much fun. I think the worker saw my white knuckles and let me off first, Thank you! Swings are still my favorite ride. The kids and I had a great time. We didn't get home until 9:30 (yes, they went to school today). We ate funnel cake with strawberries and whipped cream.
Today I was at the temple all day. Did 3 sessions. Missed the stake meeting though, wanted to get home to my kids, but forgot about the school meeting so I only saw my kids for about 15 minutes today.
I am at an emotional place were I want to sit and write for a long period of time. I am happy to learn and want to document were I'm at emotionally. When, when when should I take the time?

Palin (1.0)
Today I didn't bake Hillary any cookies;
Ironed 12 shirts
Defrost the freezer
Dropped off a forgotten lunch and med. at the school
Scrubbed out the refrigerator
2 doc appointments
I'm thinking about last nights speech. After a primary Pres meeting we quickly closed with prayer and turned on the TV. I had to leave before it was over, saw less than half.
Jury still out.
But I love that she is a mom, intelligent, articulate, pretty (but needs to fix that hair), played basketball and is one year older than me. I can relate to her. I would not make some of the choices she had made and I don't hold the same view of some things, but I like her. If Obama stays positive though, I might just have to think harder on this one. He won points when he backed up Palin and the idea of the kids being off limits.

First Day School
Do you remember the first day of school? The smell of new crayons or new clothes. Seeing friends and getting to know new teachers was always fun.
Not this year. Today was an eventful day.
Not this year. Today was an eventful day.
- For a week now I have talked with a few mom's asking if they are ready for school. Ever single one does not want school to start, except me. "Please go. Go to school. Please let me have some ME time again." I must be a horrible mom. So last night I woke up and thought, I'm the only one who doesn't like her kids. NO, not the case after all. I started to cry when my youngest walked into her classroom. Where did that come from?
- One child was not allowed in school because of not having documented the latest state vaccine. The pediatrician did not have any in stock, so we switched to my doctor. An hour later, back in school, OK. But 40 minutes before school is out I get a phone call saying he is sick. I went and got him. Sometimes I make my kids "tough it out", but for him to say he is sick on the first day of school, I knew he needed me to get him.
- So another child of mine, some kid came up to her and...cut her hair. Out of the blue. She was later told by the principal that he was suspended. On the first day of school!
And another thing...one kid had a "movie night" last Friday. One guest was dropped off a half an hour early! Then had to call after it was over and wasn't picked up until a half an hour after it was over! I've never met these parents but schesh!
People, People what are they thinking?
