Missed a Basketball party.
Missed 2 days of the annual Puyallup Sewing Expo. Bummed.
It is NO fun spending all day in bed with my hubby when we are both sick and everything the other ones does annoys us.
Most likely going to miss events tomorrow too. Bummed

Winter Cabin
Spent 2 nights in a snowy rustic cabin. My wonderful hubby got up every hour or so to put more wood on to keep us warm. That first night my family had rosy checks and sweat pouring off of them and I was oblivious to the temp. It was wonderful to just “hang out”. We sled, ate, played a few games and read. We didn’t want to leave but thought a third night of no sleep for dad was just to much.
We started reading scriptures as a family before our youngest was even born. At a stake conference we had been asked to raise our hand to commit to reading the Book of Mormon as a family. We did. I remember one time coming home at night and we wanted to keep the habit, but it was to late and dark to read. Our youngest son, not even 2 years old volunteered to say what he remembered. “And it came to pass”. He said more than that, I don’t remember more specific of what he said. But I do remember how hubby and I looked at each other and how we felt. Yes, we are doing the right thing. Yes, it is having an impact on even someone so young.
Our family is old enough now that we decided to read for a half hour. We even set the timer. Sometimes we miss, sometimes we decide not to because someone has a contentious attitude. We are trying to focus, this time, on how we feel as a family when we are obediently reading. This has been very successful (so far). The kids know and recognize that we are missing out when we don’t read. They want to read!
As we were reading in the cabin it felt good. But more important to me is that questions were being asked, scriptures were being marked and opinions were given by them, not just mom. It is good to feel like we’re doing good.

Videos
We finally rented “Across the Universe”. The special features, music video part, were fantastic!
Fun choreography and the redone Beatles music was good also. But alas that was all that was enjoyable. Maybe we’ll get the CD soundtrack but forget the DVD.
“Becoming Jane” was SO good! I watched it 2 times and watched a particular scene at the end 5 times! In the special features Anne Hathaway states she had never worked with James McAvoy but he was like working with a future legend (I think that was the word she used). I must admit I am now a fan of his. I had only seen him in “Narnia” but will go looking for more. I do like Anne Hathaway and she held her own, but wonder if I would have “bought” the romance between the two more with a different actress. I can’t think of any that age that would have done better.
Several of Jane Austen books are in several versions out on video and I have to watch them more than once to get the full dialogue. I think that they are basically the same story, a Cinderella story. Poor girl of good character struggles but ultimately get the rich guy.
I have never read any Jane Austen books. I don’t like fiction. It has always felt like a waste of time. If I am going to take the time to read I want to learn something. I can not wait to get my hands on a bio of Jane Austen herself now. Who knows maybe I’ll even try a book or two of hers.

Dance
When I called up my hubby to ask him out for the first time, I asked him to go dancing. He said, “No. I have two left feet.” We did something else instead another night. We love the same kind of music with few differences. I gave up dancing when we married but this past Christmas time we were dancing around in the kitchen together to “The Clash”, I think. Even two left feet can punk
My hubby and I went to the annual church Valentines dinner dance. The food was great, but…the music was 50 years old! Chubby Checkers is fun, but all things in moderation, right? After a half hour, we left. The music was for people who could actually hold hands while dancing. I was disappointed. So, we come home to a child who has never baby sat for that long before and what is this child doing? Watching “School of Rock”! My kids are SO GREAT! They have such great taste!
My daughter sent me a link to her roommate’s blogs, Oh, my gosh! How cool! “Journey”! How cool is that? I think these people must be pretty cool too.
Yesterday I did my “Monday, Monday” chores with by daughters’ burned CD’s playing. Fun Stuff. I reflect back on my choice to stop listening to music when I had kids. I needed the quite. I still do. But a little sad at what was lost to me. I love music. I love my kids more. I love my kids loving music. It’s their choice though. Choice is good. I love dancing. I love my hubby more. I love the smiles on my kids faces when mom & dad punk in the kitchen. The kitchen is better than the cultural hall anyway.

Not addicted. Not surprised. Not up to much today. Ran errands yesterday. Helped out at the school with Valentine Candy Grams. I’m thinking about making Valentine cookie arrangements to give to friends. Who knows if thinking translates into action? I should go sew now. I’m way behind. I took my 43 year old machine in to get serviced yesterday. I’m borrowing a friends for now.

Super Tuesday
Vote for John McCain. I have always liked him.
My hubby and I tried to get involved with the local republican party a few years back (him more than I) but got very discouraged at the polarizing conversations. We are more moderate. We like to have respectful discussions trying to reach common ground. I don’t agree with bashing anyone or any position.
John McCain tells it like it is. He stands firm even if it is not popular. That is integrity and I highly regard the quality. Romney switched views on some key issues. I like Obama's hope but disagree on issues. Although Obama’s books are an easier read than John McCain’s. I have to miss the John McCain supporters getting together today in Seattle starting at 4:30. VT Conference and etc going on. Bummer.

Hinckley Challenge
Busy week-end. U2 3D was awesome! Oh, my gosh! We saw the same concert when they were here a couple years ago, but the sound system was awful. This one was great! We would love to go again! Wish we could $$ take the kids. We have brainwashed them to love and appreciate all the classics; Clash, Beatles and U2. Some have gone even further and like the Mama's & Papas. Not bad, but not my thing.
I didn't tear up during President Hinckley funeral, much. But the clips before hand and after, I did. There is a "hinckleychallenge" to read the Book of Mormon in 97 days, starting today. Our family is already on 1 Nephi 17, from the start of the New Year. Our oldest gave us a "family" Book of Mormon, we are taking turns with. I'm hoping I can get them to agree to the 97 days idea instead of a chapter a day.
Not much going on today. Monday is always laundry day. Hey, don't the Mama's & Papas have a song, "Monday, Monday"...

U2 3D
So this blog thing is new. What am I supposed to write? What is safe to put out there?
My hubby bought tickets to see U2 3D! We are going tonight! We love U2! I mean we LOVE U2! Last year for Christmas he got me their book. I read it cover to cover right away (right away at Christmas time means 3 days). I had always liked there music but didn't know it was them. Like when I fell in love with Prince, I had liked some previous songs but didn't know they all belonged to the same artist until I bought one album and loved it so much I went back listening on his previous stuff. That's when I knew it was love. For U2 it was the video for "Where the Streets Have No Name". They sang the song on top of a store in LA. Crowds of people stopped traffic in the street to watch. Oh, that spoke to the rebel in me! Then the song "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". I like the video in my head better than the one they did. That was at a time in my life were I was looking to become who I always knew I wanted to be but got side tracked. It was "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" and "I Will Follow" that I liked before hand but had never noted the artist.
This is where a deleted paragraph was. It was about my husband and why WE love U2. To much personal info, sorry. Let's just assume there is some great history in our relationship.
I am still not who I wanted to be. Reba McIntire sings a line "Who I am, is who I want to be". Dick Clark had some line, "Music is the soundtrack of our lives". My soundtrack would have primary songs, Elton John, Journey, Prince, Christmas Man (family phrase), various self-absorbed women, Hymns and U2. There are thousands of songs I like, but my soundtrack would have those. I stopped collecting music when I started having kids. Barney was a brief phase, but I was so sleep deprived I have just blocked it out. Last year I discovered I love Green Day and the Killers are good too. I wish it was clean though. U2 is!
So tonight is U2 3D, reviews are good. How could they not be? One of my favorite lines (paraphrasing here) was from Edge commenting on Bono not being around to work, “Who does he think he is? Is he out saving the world or something? Oh, yea. He is.”
